GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS and FELLOWSHIPS - Michigan State University

Michigan State University’s Horticulture Department, the nation’s first and foremost, has numerous new opportunities for state-of-the art graduate study programs leading to the MS or PhD degrees. MSU horticulture graduates successfully compete for leadership positions in academic, industry, extension, and government settings around the world.

A broad range of expert faculty facilitate a wide diversity of horticultural areas of graduate study, including genetics, genomics, molecular biology, physiology, postharvest biology, floriculture, weed science, sustainable fruit and vegetable production, organic agriculture, gardens management, nursery and landscape horticulture, natural products chemistry, marketing, education, biotechnology, etc. Students also may study with Horticulture faculty through interdepartmental programs in Genetics, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Ecological Food & Farming Systems.

Assistantships and fellowships are available to qualified individuals on a competitive basis. Research assistantships (1/2 time) for 2009-2010 at MSU range from $26,848 to $29,307 including stipend, tuition, and health benefits. For applicants with exceptional credentials and/or those from under-represented groups, sponsored campus visitations also may be available—please contact Dr. Gregory Lang (langg@msu.edu), Graduate Programs Director, to discuss the specifics for sponsored campus visits, which most often occur during January–March but can be arranged at any time depending on circumstances.

Much more information on the exciting opportunities for an MSU graduate degree in the Horticulture Department can be obtained through our web site (http://www.hrt.msu.edu/GradProgram/) and/or by contacting individual faculty members having research interests similar to yours or the Department Graduate Programs Office (hrtgrad@msu.edu).

For consideration for the broadest range of fellowships, assistantships, and visitation opportunities, complete applications for study beginning Fall 2010 should be received no later than January 1, 2010, although applications are evaluated throughout the year for admissions in fall, winter, or spring.

Come join the creative, inquisitive, and diverse horticultural academics at Michigan State University!
