ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - Department of Plant Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN

12 month, tenure-track position in the area of Sustainable Ornamental Plant Production and Landscape Management. 75% Extension and 25% Research responsibilities.

Screening of applicants’ credentials will begin on November 2, 2009 and continue until the position is filled.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include group health and life insurance; state employees’ retirement; workers’ compensation; and sick and annual leave.

Responsibilities: The candidate will establish a nationally recognized extension and research program in sustainable landscape horticulture related to ornamental production and management. The candidate is expected to develop innovative and comprehensive support for research, promotion and adoption of best management practices for landscape and commercial ornamental plant production and management.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a PhD in Horticulture, Crop Science or a related plant science or sustainable agriculture discipline. Post-doctoral extension and research experience is desired. Experience and/or specialized training in horticultural plant production systems or post harvest physiology, commercial or professional landscape management, urban forestry, or environmental sustainability/low input landscapes is highly desired. The candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and to interact effectively with students, faculty, producers and AgResearch and Education Center personnel.
