PLANT BREEDING RESEARCH ASSISTANT II - Davis, California

The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist processing tomato breeding program in field trial design, planting, trial evaluating, and seed harvest.
  • Manage breeding database and seed inventory.
  • Supervise field and greenhouse crew in seeding, transplanting, crossing blocks, and seed harvest.
  • Interact and collaborate with plant pathologist, molecular biologist in project submission, result tracking, and data entry.
  • Interact with basic seed manager, foundation seed manager in parent seed production and seed quality assurance.
  • Receive and distribute seeds for seed production, variety trials, product development, and marketing, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Position requires a minimum BS in plant science, horticulture, or related discipline and 3 year experience or MS.
  • Working experience in seed industry is desirable.
  • This position requires an non-smoker based on job responsibilities related to greenhouses and the potential for Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) contamination.

Skills required:

  • Candidate should possess good interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communication.
  • Skills and working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Spanish language skill is a plus.
