ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Horticulture Weed Scientist - University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences

This 12-month tenure-track position with 70% extension and 30% research assignments will be available in the Horticultural Sciences Department in Gainesville.

The successful candidate will design and publish weed management recommendations for the state of Florida on vegetable crops, deciduous fruit and nut crops grown in the state valued at $1.8 billion, develop in-service education for county faculty and design, implement, and deliver weed management education programs for county faculty, allied agricultural industries, and growers.

The research duties of this position are to plan and perform investigations and publish results on the management, ecology, and biology of weeds important to these crops.

This position will also act as the principal investigator for the IR-4 North Florida Field Research Center and direct the GLP residue trials carried out at the Center.

A PhD in horticulture, agronomy, or a closely related plant science discipline is required. Postdoctoral and/or previous extension experience and participation in interdisciplinary research programs are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system and committed to the IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability. Compensation is commensurate with the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected applicant.
