"I am working very, very hard at my new job and I absolutely love coming to work everyday!" says Ryan Newell, who is busy and happy as both a horticulturist and a landscape designer for the Hamilton Farm Golf Club. "My main focus is to manage the grounds of our 65-room Georgian style mansion, clubhouse, and front entrance," explains Newell. "This entails managing turf, herbaceous plants, woody plants, roads, member parking lot, containers, and everything in between. I do all chemical and fertilizer applications along side our spray technician."

Newell, who credits his undergraduate training helped him grow into a mature, professional horticulturist, has also been called upon to perform numerous landscape designer duties. "There are countless projects that I have proposed, are under construction, and some that are completed. Most recently, I designed a plant emblem for our golf club. We are building 18 4,000-5,000 square foot cottages on our property. I have been asked to design a gated cottage entrance way and countless enhancements to the existing project site. I have extended our clubhouse patio area with more hardscapes and added more perennial gardens."

While the golf club is relatively young, The Hamilton Farm has a long history that dates back to 1911. Presently the club boasts the US Equestrian Team grounds and two beautiful golf courses in place of prize-winning livestock and pastures.
