Title: The Early Days of Hemp in the US: Insights from the UF/IFAS Pilot Project

Speaker: Dr. Zachary Brym, Assistant Professor, University of Florida-Tropical Research and Education Center, Department of Agronomy

This webinar will highlight:
The legal landscape for hemp is transitioning from state pilot projects to national commercialization. The research generated from university-based pilot projects is struggling to fill gaps in knowledge and support the establishment of the industry. The UF/IFAS Industrial Hemp Pilot Project has initiated research to identify varieties suitable to Florida’s environment, to design cropping systems for Florida’s farmers that are economically viable and environmentally responsible, and to investigate the potential for hemp’s escape from cultivation and high invasion risk in Florida. The webinar will give a brief overview of the biology of hemp, define its legal status, and describe the early research activities from the UF/IFAS hemp program.
