LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Oh! The Places You Will Go! at the Annual ASHS Conference in Las Vegas

At this summer’s annual conference for the American Society for Horticultural Science, attendees will find substantial advances in long-understood science and realize the possibility of a life of travel and adventure in the pursuit of those advances.

Louise Ferguson of The University of California-Davis will showcase her professional life as a horticulturist while sharing travel memories and offering insight and lessons during her session entitled Oh, the Places You’ll Go (as a Horticulturist)! on July 24 at 10:00 a.m. in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Tropicana.

Ferguson adds, “Once you have developed horticultural expertise, the world calls, presenting you with opportunities to travel, learn, develop research ideas and cooperations, meet colleagues that become lifelong friends, experience cultures and have adventures you never imagined.”

She will focus on her professional exploits in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt, and Jordon as well as her meetings and collaborations that took her to Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

Ferguson’s travels have afforded her the opportunity to experiment on unfamiliar topography, expand working theories, and realize practical applications of controlled-environment knowledge. Everything she learned in these remote sites she was able to bring home and apply to her research program. And she benefitted in other ways from her exposure to exotic cultures, differing political systems, and the people with whom she had the pleasure of working.

“Horticulture is a small world. You will have friends all over the globe.”

The American Society for Horticultural Science hosts its international conference every summer, offering an illuminating exchange of ideas and methodology that is critical to those working in the various fields of horticultural science and education. This year, the conference takes place in Las Vegas, NV, from July 21-25 at the famed Tropicana Hotel.
