|As Secretary / Treasurer for the Ohio AgriBusiness Association, Brian Peach is responsible for planning and directing association functions and services, and working with volunteer leaders to implement association policy. Peach’s typical day involves planning activities and communicating with members about various events and services. “The association is a great resource for members. They normally think of us first when they need answers to questions. We pride ourselves on being able to provide those answers.” |
Peach finds association work rewarding because it provides satisfaction in seeing volunteers grow and develop. “I enjoy recruiting new volunteers who may be shy and lacking confidence and watching them become leaders from their association experience of gaining confidence and knowledge about the issues surrounding their industry.“
Peach’s OSU experience allowed him to gain confidence in himself, much like the service he provides for members. “A university as diverse as OSU offers so many different opportunities to expand your world.” His position with the OABA still allows him to interact a great deal with the faculty and staff in the College and the Horticulture and Crop Science Department including co-hosting the annual Crop Production Conference with OSU Extension.
The future Peach foresees is driven by a need for industry efficiency. “The agriculture industry continues to experience consolidation and technology continues to be a driving force in the industry with biotech and computer assistance. But plants are necessary to our overall quality of life and the plant sciences will always offer rewarding career opportunities because we all have to eat and hopefully we all enjoy the serenity of a beautiful landscape,” explains Peach.
