Description
The ASHS Professional Early Career Awards recognize ASHS members for outstanding contributions to horticultural science through their professional activities within 7 years of completing their final degrees (BS, MS, PhD, etc.) prior to their employment.
Established in 2020.
Requirements
Four awards will be presented annually to professionals who have demonstrated excellence and or contributions to the science of horticulture, one in each of the following award categories:
1. Excellence and outstanding contributions to teaching and education systems excellence of horticulture or horticulture related disciplines at the secondary, post-secondary, or graduate levels.
2. Excellence and outstanding contributions to research, innovation, creativity related to horticulture science or horticulture related disciplines
3. Excellence and outstanding contributions to extension or outreach of horticulture science or horticulture related disciplines.
4. Excellence and outstanding contributions to commercial, industrial, or professional consulting of horticulture science.
ASHS membership and participation in the ASHS. Nominees may not have been previously recognized with this award.
Nominators must be members of ASHS.
Selection committees recommend recipients for each award. The final selection is made by the ASHS Awards Committee. Recipients receive plaques during the annual Awards Ceremony; there is no
monetary stipend.
Instructions
The nomination process includes the following:
1) Nominee's curriculum vitae.
2) Biographical Summary (not to exceed 400 words) – key achievements and activities of the nominee, suitable for the printed program for the presentation ceremony.
3) A nomination letter (not to exceed 500 words) indicating the reason for nominating this individual. This letter should identify the major contributions on which the nomination is based and explain why the nominee is especially qualified to receive this
award.
4) Three to five letters of support, including at least one from another institution.
5) Nominees not selected for the award in the year of the initial nomination are kept on file for automatic consideration again the next year, without
requiring renomination. At the time for the Call for Nominations each year, nominators of previous unsuccessful nominations have the option of updating and resubmitting their earlier nominations.
The deadline for all nominations
is February 4.
