"I am responsible for gathering, editing and updating the online gardening content that supports the HGTV programs," explains Susan Conlon, assistant editor for HGTV. "My work includes researching and writing newsletter articles, as well as identifying new gardening trends, tools and products."

Conlon grew up visiting public and private gardens and developed a passion for horticulture and how people enjoy gardening in their lives. During her undergraduate years, she completed internships at Cheekwood Botanical Garden, Opryland Hotel and Conservatories, and Biltmore Estate. Conlon's career path began as a Horticulturist at Cheekwood, where she supervised and maintained included the Color Garden and historic Boxwood Garden.

Conlon encourages students to find hands-on learning opportunities, as she did herself. "I was involved in many exciting gardening activities while earning my master's degree. I was the volunteer coordinator and webmaster for the UT Gardens. I participated in key garden events such as the annual Blooms Days and Summer Color Field Day. I performed much of the design for the UT Gardens, perennial collections and annual displays in particular." Conlon was a regular guest for the Garden Girls radio talk show, hosted garden tours and gave garden seminars, assisted with three of courses (Herbaceous Plants, Introduction to Public Horticulture, Public Garden Management and Operations), and was awarded the Perennial Plant Association's 2005 Young Professional Award.
